PIPERAZINY AND PIPERIDINY UREAS AND RELATED COMPOUNDS AS FATTY ACID AMIDE HYDROLASE MODULATORS FOR THE TREATMENT OF ANXIETY, PAIN AND OTHER CONDITIONS. The present invention relates to compounds of formula (1) used as FAAH inhibitors, wherein Z is -N- or> CH; R¹ is -H or -C 1-4 alkyl; Ar¹ is 2-thiazolyl, 2-pyridyl, 3-pyridyl, 4-pyridyl, 2-pyrimidinyl, 4-pyrimidinyl, 5-pyrimidinyl or phenyl, each unsubstituted or substituted on one carbon ring element by one or two portions R ^ a ^; wherein each R 1 to R 2 moiety is independently selected from the group consisting of -C 1-4 alkyl, -C 2-4 alkenyl, -OH, -O C 1-4 alkyl, halo, -CF 6 3 ~, -OCF ~ 3 ~, -SCF ~ 3 ~, -SH, -S (O) ~ 0-2 ~ C ~ 1-4-alkyl, -0S0 ~ 2 ~ C ~ 1-4-alkyl, - C 0-2 C 1-4 alkyl, -CO 2 H, -COC 1-4 alkyl, -N (R 4 b ^) R 4 c 4, -SO 2 2 NR 4 b ^ R ^ c ^, -NR ^ b ^ SO ~ 2 ~ R ^ c ^, -C (= O) NR ^ b ^ R ^ c ^, -NO ^ 2 ^ and -CN, where R ^ b ^ e R3 and C4 are each independently -H or -C 1-4 alkyl; and Ar² is as defined in the claims. Such compounds may be used in pharmaceutical compositions and methods for treating disease state, disorders and conditions mediated by fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) activity. Thus, the compounds may be administered to treat, for example, anxiety, pain, inflammation, sleep disorders, eating disorders or movement disorders (such as multiple sclerosis). |
