abstract | A process for the production of an aromatic polycarbonate and aromatic polycarbonate produced by the process The invention relates to a process for the production of an aromatic polycarbonate comprising the steps of: (i) transesterification of a starting material selected from the group consisting of a dialkyl carbonate an alkylaryl carbonate and a mixture thereof with a reagent selected from the group consisting of an aromatic monohydroxyl compound, an alkylaryl carbonate and a mixture thereof in the presence of a catalyst for Thus, a high boiling reaction mixture comprising an aromatic polycarbonate (a) and an aromatic carbonate ether (b) is obtained while a low boiling reaction mixture containing a low boiling byproduct is removed. ; and (ii) separating the aromatic carbonate ether (b) from the high boiling reaction mixture to thereby obtain a high purity aromatic carbonate. |
