titleOfInvention chromatographic method for analysis of both process and finished sevoflurane
abstract CHROMATOGRAPHIC METHOD FOR ANALYZES IN PROCESS AND FINISHED SEVOFLURAN. A method wherein the organic substance found in a crude sevoflurane can be separated, identified and quantified using a CARBOWAX <3> capillary gas chromatographic column (polyethylene glycol) or an alkyl polysiloxane capillary gas chromatographic column. A process control method for the production of sevoflurane is also provided, wherein the content of a particular component in one of the following steps is determined, and, assuming this as a variable, the condition of treatment of the step is adjusted: 1) an extraction, or cooling, step to form two layers and / or distillation of a mixture of crude sevoflurane and hydrogen fluoride (HF) to isolate most sevoflurane and 2) an optional step purifying crude sevoflurane and 3) a step of distilling crude sevoflurane. Also provided is a method for determining the level of impurities of a purified sevoflurane which is acceptable for use in human / animal anesthesia.
