titleOfInvention REVERSIBLE OPTICAL STORAGE METHOD AND SYSTEM
abstract "reversible optical storage method and system". comprising the recording and erasing of data in two and three dimensions by nonlinear optical phenomena induced in photoisomeric compounds by birefringence resulting from the 2-photon absorption process. said compounds comprise azo-polymers and azo-aromatic polymers. The recording process comprises irradiating the photoisomeric material with a polarized light beam and wavelength outside the linear absorption region of said material, said beam being strongly concentrated in the region to be recorded by means of an optical system. reading the information recorded in the form of induced birefringence comprises illumination of the material recorded by a test beam passing through a first and second reading polarizers whose polarization angles are crossed and said information may be observed visually or detected by a photodetector.
