titleOfInvention | method for transporting drugs to the brain |
abstract | METHOD FOR TRANSPORTING DRUGS TO THE BRAIN. The present invention relates to the transfer of a pharmaceutical composition to the brain of a mammalian individual to treat brain diseases or disorders. The process includes the steps of: (i) providing a dispersion of the pharmaceutical composition as particles having an average particle size of about 150 nm to about 100 microns; and (ii) administering the dispersion to the mammalian individual for transfer to the brain of a portion of the pharmaceutical composition as particles, for example, can be phagocyted or adsorbed by the cells before or subsequently administration to the mammalian individual. The dispersion of the pharmaceutical composition can be administered to the central nervous system or the vascular system. After administration, the charged cells carry the pharmaceutical composition to the brain as particles. |
