The present invention describes the synthesis of a novel ritonavir analog compound which exhibits significantly superior activity to ritonavir in inhibiting HIV protease. Also described are the use of the ritonavir analog compound of the present invention or its salt, ester or prodrug as an active ingredient in pharmaceutical compositions as well as the use of the compound and pharmaceutical compositions in medicine, particularly in the treatment of HIV infection. alone or in combination with other anti-HIV medicines.
