abstract <B> "ISOLATED NUCLEIC ACID FRAGMENT, CHIMERIC GENE, TRANSFORMED HOST CELL, POLYPEPTIODES, METHOD OF CHANGING THE LEVEL OF EXPRESSION OF AN ENZYME, METHOD OF OBTAINING AN AGRICULTURAL FOOD FROM THE WATER, WATER PRODUCT A COMPOUND INHIBITING AN ENZYME ACTIVITY "<D> The present invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a plant enzyme that catalyzes steps in the biosynthesis of lysine, threonine, methionine, cysteine and isoleucine from aspartate, the enzyme being a member selected from the group consisting of aspartic semialdehyde dehydrogenase, diaminopimelate decarboxylase, homoserine kinase, cysteine synthase and cystathionine <l25> lyase. The present invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene that encodes the enzyme, in whole or in part, in a favorable or opposite direction, where the expression of the chimeric gene results in the production of altered levels of the enzyme in a transformed host cell. .
