titleOfInvention Anticonvulsant derivatives useful in the treatment of neuropathic pain
abstract Invention Patent: <B> "USEFUL ANTICONVULSIVE DERIVATIVES IN THE TREATMENT OF NEUROPATHIC PAIN" <D>. The present invention describes a method for treating neuropathic pain which comprises administering to a mammal affected with such a condition a therapeutically effective amount for treating such a condition of a compound of formula (I), wherein: X is CH ~ 2 ~ or oxygen; R ~ 1 ~ is hydrogen or alkyl; and R ~ 2 ~, R ~ 3 ~, R ~ 4 ~ and R ~ 5 ~ are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl and, when X is CH ~ 2 ~, R ~ 4 ~ and R ~ 5 ~ can be bonded alkene groups to form a benzene ring and, when X is oxygen, R ~ 2 ~ and R ~ 3 ~ and / or R ~ 4 ~ and R ~ 5 ~ together can be a methylenedioxy group of formula (II), where R ~ 6 ~ and R ~ 7 ~ are the same or different and are hydrogen, lower alkyl or are alkyl and are bonded to form a cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl ring, particularly topiramate.
