The present invention relates to plant breeding and methods of identification and selection of plants with resistance to corn rust-polysora. Methods are provided to identify new genes that encode the proteins that give the plant resistance to corn rust-polysora and uses thereof. These disease resistant genes are useful in producing resistant plants through plant breeding, transgenic modification or genome editing.
