abstract | The present invention relates to the polynucleotide sequences of genes encoding Nicotiana tabacum aspartate transaminase (AAT) and the modulation of its expression. A plant cell is described comprising: (i) a compound polynucleotide, consisting or essentially consisting of a sequence with at least 80% sequence identity with SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 5, SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 9, SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO: 13 or SEQ ID NO: 15; (ii) a polypeptide encoded by the polypeptide indicated in (i); (ii) a compound polypeptide, consisting of or essentially consisting of a sequence with at least 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO: 6 or SEQ ID NO: 8, at least 93% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO: 2 or SEQ ID NO: 10 or SEQ ID NO: 12 or at least 94% sequence identity with SEQ ID NO: 4 or SEQ ID NO: 14 or SEQ ID NO: 16; or (iv) an expression construct, vector or vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide indicated in (i), wherein said plant cell comprises at least one modification that modulates the expression or activity of the polynucleotide or polypeptide compared to the plant cell control in which the expression or activity of the polynucleotide or polypeptide has not been modified. |
