in the present invention, hppd polypeptides and plants containing them are described, showing total tolerance against one or more hppd inhibitor herbicide (s) belonging to various chemical classes. a set of mutant hppd polypeptides has been designed that may or may not have a significantly reduced affinity for hppd-inhibiting herbicides and, at the same time, the dissociation rate of hppd inhibitors from the mutant hppd polypeptide is increased to such an extent that hppd no longer act as slow or slow binding, strong binding inhibitors, but have instead become completely reversible inhibitors. in particular, isolated polynucleotides are provided that encode mutant hppd polypeptides that confer tolerance to hppd-inhibiting herbicides belonging to various chemical classes. in addition, amino acid sequences that correspond to polynucleotides are covered. |
