abstract A method for preparing a catalyst comprising vanadium pentoxide supported on a metal oxide catalyst support is disclosed comprising the steps of a) providing the crystalline vanadium pentoxide particles and the particles of a metal oxide catalyst support ; b) solid state mixing the particles and dispersing the vanadium pentoxide particles on the surface of the metal oxide support particles; and c) anchoring the dispersed vanadium pentoxide particles onto the surface of the metal oxide support particles by calcination at a temperature above 500 °C, characterized in that the sintering of the vanadium pentoxide particles is suppressed by the addition of an anti-sintering metal oxide component during anchoring in step c).
