abstract | METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A COMPOSITION CONTAINING XYLAN AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A COMPOSITION CONTAINING GLUCAN. The present invention provides a method of making a composition that contains xylan, a method of making a composition that contains glucan, and a method of making glucose. Herbaceous biomass is treated by heating with an alkali in an amount of 8 parts by mass or more and 70 parts by mass or less, and water in an amount of 10 parts by mass or more and 10,000 parts by mass or less, with respect to 100 parts by mass of a solids content of the herbaceous biomass under an H factor in the range of 3 or more and 3,000 or less, thus obtaining a treated alkaline primary biomass. The treated alkaline primary biomass is subjected to an immersion treatment in an aqueous solution of an alkali in a concentration of 6% by mass or more and 60% by mass or less at 0°C or more and 50°C or less, thus obtaining an alkaline treated secondary biomass. A water soluble component of the treated alkaline biomass is extracted to obtain a composition containing xylan, a water insoluble component of the treated alkaline secondary biomass is extracted to separate a (...). |
