abstract ABSORBENT ITEM FOR FEMALE HYGIENE. The absorbent article for feminine hygiene with fluid barrier and bleaching structures is described. These structures can prevent menstrual fluid from spreading to the edges of the article and can also discolor the stains so that the stains are less noticeable. The article includes a liquid permeable topsheet with a core layer positioned adjacent the opposing side layers. The side layers may include a separation region that at least partially separates a bleaching agent-bearing material treated with a bleaching agent from an absorbent core. At least one of the side layers may also include at least one fluid barrier region that can prevent or slow the propagation of fluids from the center of the article to the edges. The combination of the separation regions and the fluid barrier can also enable the bleaching agent to sufficiently discolor the occurrence of fluid that may have propagated to the side edges of the article.
