abstract | STABILIZED POLYURETHANE POLYOL MIXTURES CONTAINING HALOGENATED OLEFIN BLOW AGENT DERIVATIVES. The present invention relates to imidazole and/or its derivative as a polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam catalyst in the presence of Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) halogenated olefinic blowing agents such as hydrochloroolefin (HCFO) HCFO-1233zd. More particularly, the present invention relates to catalyst compositions comprising imidazole and/or a derivative thereof. The present invention also relates to stable premix formulations and resulting from polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams. One method of stabilizing the thermoset foam mixture comprises combining: (a) a polyisocyanate and, optionally, compatible isocyanate raw materials; and b) a polyol premix composition comprising a halogenated olefinic blowing agent, a polyol, a surfactant, and a catalyst, wherein the catalyst comprises substituted imidazole having C2 or higher substitutions on the N1 nitrogen and/or its derivatives. The resulting polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams have a uniform cell structure with little or no foam collapse. |
