In a method for the production of polyamides by means of polycondensation of monomers and / or polyamide-forming oligomers capable of polycondensation in reaction mixtures containing these, which may contain water, but are free of organic solvents, polycondensation occurs in a reactor with a mixer by mixing in a first stage in a fluid phase and, after a phase change occurring during the process in the same reactor, in a second subsequent stage in a solid phase, in which at least in the second stage the temperature in the reactor is below the melting point of polyamide.
