Patent Summary: "Genetically engineered microorganisms for the production of poly-4-hydroxy butyrate". The present invention relates to genetically engineered methods and hosts for obtaining poly-4-hydroxy and 4-carbon butrate products. The present invention relates to methods for increasing the production of a poly-4-hydroxy and 4-carbon (c4) butrate product or a 4-carbon monomer polymer from a renewable starting material which comprises the provision of a genetically modified microorganism that has reduced alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase activity such that growth is impaired compared to a wild-type organism without reduced activity; and the provision of one or more genes that are stably expressed that encode an enzyme with an activity that catalyzes the decarboxylation of alpha-ketoglutarate in succinic semialdehyde, wherein growth is increased and the carbon flux of the starting material product of 4 carbon carbons (c4) or a 4-carbon monomer polymer is increased. 22443649v1 1/1 22443649v1 |
