titleOfInvention rapid ultraround preparation of diagnostic tissue as an alternative to frozen section
abstract Patent Summary: "Ultra-fast preparation of diagnostic tissue as an alternative to frozen section". The present invention relates to improved methods and systems for processing solid tissues. The method can be performed manually or automatically. the system may have modules such as (i) an extrapolation module, where fresh tissue is cut to prepare tissue sample, (ii) a hardening module that hardens the tissue sample, (iii) an impregnation module that impregnates the hardened tissue sample, and (iv) an embedding module that incorporates a hardened and impregnated tissue sample. Fresh tissue, which has been removed for diagnosis of the disease or for surgical treatment, is extrapolated to about 0.6 mm. Preferably, hardening of fresh tissue is initiated but not completed during extrapolation by contact with a chemical mixture. preferably dry ice, thermoelectric device, or gas condenser cools a metal mold containing the incorporated sample. It is sectioned and then examined microscopically as an alternative to the histological examination of a frozen section to avoid known discordant and deferred diagnosis problems.
