The method of making a polymer of the present invention is a method of making a polymer wherein a hydroxyl group is added to a terminal of one of a homopolymer of an unconjugated olefin, a homopolymer of a conjugated diene compound and a copolymer. of a conjugated diene compound and an unconjugated olefin, the method comprises: a first reaction step of reacting a hydrocarbon containing at least one of the unconjugated olefin and the conjugated diene compound with an organic aluminum compound, using a catalyst containing earth element compound; a second reaction step of reacting a first reagent obtained from the first reaction step with oxygen; and a third reaction step of reacting a second reagent obtained from the second reaction step with at least one of water and 25 alcohol. |
