abstract method to improve the printing performance of flexographic printing elements. a method of producing an embossed image printing element that has an embossed pattern, the method comprising the steps of: a) selectively removing the masking layer to create an overall image in the masking layer, so that the image generally comprise a subimage, which comprises a pattern of cells, in it; b) application of an oxygen barrier layer on the surface of the masking layer; c) exposure of the printing element to actinic radiation through the oxygen barrier layer and the masking layer to selectively crosslink and cure at least one photocurable layer, thus creating the embossed image there and a textured surface on the printing element ; and d) developing the printing white by removing the barrier layer and the uncured portions of the photocurable layer to reveal the embossed image.
