abstract METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A DRUG TO TREAT AN INFLAMMATORY CONDITION, PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR ORAL ADMINISTRATION AND USE OF A (Theta)-DEFENSIN. Drug compositions for treating one or more inflammatory conditions can include at least one of a theta-defensin, analog or derivative thereof. Inventive methods include researching the efficacy of theta-defensins, analogues or derivatives thereof with respect to anti-inflammatory effects and providing such compositions to the local market for the purpose of treating inflammatory conditions. Effective drug compositions are of particular interest to produce clinically relevant inhibition of tumor necrosis factor alpha converting enzyme (TACE) (TNF-a) or other pro-inflammatory proteases, and/or sheddases, such as RTD-1-27 , 28-RTD-1 or RTD-1-29. It is contemplated that preferred compositions can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and other chronic inflammatory diseases, autoimmune diseases, cancer and Alzheimer's disease, osteoarthritis, inflammation-related neurodegenerative diseases and other inflammation-related diseases.
