process for applying an additive composition to a substrate surface |
abstract |
Process for applying an additive composition to a surface of a substrate and tissue paper product The present invention describes a process for topically applying additive compositions to planar substrates, such as tissue paper webs. in one embodiment, the process is designed to apply compositions with relatively high viscosities to base sheets at high speeds, in a way that prevents the additive composition from penetrating the sheet. the additive composition with relatively high viscosity can be applied to the base sheet, in one embodiment, using an offset printing process. the applicator roll includes a pattern of raised elements. the elevated elements define a surface having at least one dimension that is less than 500 micrometers. the raised elements are also closely spaced together in order to prevent the accumulation of fibers in the roll during processing at relatively fast speeds. |
