titleOfInvention FASTENER SYSTEM THAT COMPRISES A RETENTION MATRIX
abstract fastener system comprising a retention matrix. The present invention relates to a surgical fastener system which may comprise a plurality of fasteners which may be connected to one another by a retention matrix which is mounted to the fasteners to capture tissue therebetween. in various embodiments, each fastener may comprise a base and the distance at which the retention matrix is seated from the fastener bases can be selectively determined by the surgeon to apply the desired pressure to the tissue. in certain embodiments, each fastener may further comprise a leg, and the retaining die may comprise a first bed of the kind configured to engage the fastener legs. the retention matrix may further comprise a second layer mounted to the first layer which may comprise one or more encapsulations containing a drug therein. the encapsulations can be aligned with the retention apertures of the retention die so that they can be pierced by the legs of the fasteners.
