abstract equipment for use in detecting one or more fluid analytes an apparatus and method for determining analytes in a fluid. one aspect of the present invention is for determining the oil content of water using uv, near, ir or raman spectroscopy or radiometry. in certain embodiments, a solid membrane material absorbs fluid analytes placed in contact with it. the membrane is then placed on an ftir spectrometer, which is activated to determine the concentration of analytes in calibration fluids. determined, modalities can determine the type of hydrocarbons present and, therefore, are able to differentiate total hydrocarbons from petroleum (tph) from total oil and grease (tog) without any separate sample preparation.
