method of removing selenium from a liquid |
abstract |
method for improving the penetration of the cooking solution into wood chips, presents a method of improving the digestion of wood chips into pulp; the method involves: adding a lipohydrophilic glycerol-based polymer to a solution used in the digestion process; this additive is unexpectedly efficient in facilitating digestion; the branched and ether structure of the additive allows it to withstand the harsh nature of the highly alkaline environment; in addition, it is more soluble at high ph than other surfactants; the structure, strength and particular balance between the hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions make the additive improve the interaction between wood chips and digestion chemicals; this, in turn, reduces the cost, the amount of additive needed and the amount of tailings blocks that result from the digestion process. |
