abstract Herbicide tolerant plants of hppd inhibitors. The invention relates to nucleic acid sequences encoding a hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxigenase (ec 1.13.11.27, abbreviated herein as hppd) obtained from bacteria belonging to the rhodococcus genus, as well as proteins encoded therein, and to a chimeric gene comprising such nucleic acid sequence, and to use such chimeric nucleic acid sequences, proteins and genes to obtain plants that are tolerant of hppd inhibitor herbicides.
