abstract "detoxifying with reducing agents" this invention provides a method for decreasing fermentation inhibition in a process for producing a target chemical from a pre-treated cellulosic material, wherein the process comprises the enzymatic hydrolysis of the pre-treated cellulosic material and the fermentation of hydrolyzed material, in which the inhibiting properties of the fermentation of the material submitted to fermentation are reduced by the addition of at least one reducing agent to the pre-treated material or to the hydrolyzed material. moreover, this invention provides the use of dithionite to decrease the inhibitory properties of the fermentation of a material to be submitted to simultaneous enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation.
