titleOfInvention | reconfigurable brushless ac electric motor |
abstract | reconfigurable brushless ac electric motor means a reconfigurable electric motor 10 that includes a rotor 12 that contains rotating permanent magnets 16, 72 or non-magnetically conductive lead parts 70. the magnets 16, 72 and/or lead parts 70 have a first output which produces a weak magnetic field 24a for asynchronous operation of the induction motor at start and a second output which produces a strong magnetic field 24b for efficient synchronous operation. the motor 10 includes a squirrel cage 32 for operating the induction motor at start-up with permanent magnets 16, 72 and/or shunt parts 70 positioned to produce the weak magnetic field 24a so as not to interfere with start-up. as the motor 10 approaches or reaches synchronous rpm, the permanent magnets 16, 72 and/or the shunt parts 70 rotate to produce a strong magnetic field 24b for high-efficiency synchronous operation. the position of the magnets 16, 72 and/or the branch pieces 70 can be controlled by a centrifugal mechanism 40 or the viscous damping 76 can slow down the rotation of the magnets 16, 72 and/or the branch pieces 70 or the electrically controlled apparatus 80 can control the positions of magnets 16, 72 and/or branch pieces 70. |
