titleOfInvention | composition, and processes for using and preparing water insoluble nanoparticles. |
abstract | composition, and processes for using and preparing water insoluble nanoparticles. The present application describes the treatment of water-insoluble nanoparticles, particularly metal nanoparticles and metal compounds which find utility in diagnostic imaging such as mr and x-ray imaging, with an alpha-hydroxy acid conjugate. phosphonic acid with a hydrophilic group to render nanoparticles sufficiently hydrophilic to find utility in diagnostic imaging. Among the modified hydrophilic nanoparticles disclosed are those in which the hydrophilic groups of the modifying conjugate are zwitterion, copolymers and polymers based on ethylene oxide and the nanoparticles are composed of transition metal oxides such as tantalum oxide and superparamagnetic iron oxide. nanoparticles which are sufficiently hydrophilic to form stable aqueous colloidal suspensions are disclosed. Diagnostic imaging such as mr and x-ray imaging using modified hydrophilic nanoparticles as contrast agents is also disclosed. |
