abstract the present invention is part of the field of medicinal preparations and comprises the process of synthesis of polycarboxylic ulavans obtained via oxidation with chlorate periodate from the ulavas extracted from the ulas fasciata. the oxidation route promoted insertion of carboxyl groups in the ulvana, characterizing a high ionic character of the polymer due to the concomitance of sulfate groups, naturally present in the structure after extraction. the polycarboxylic ulcans obtained contain units of 2,3-dicarboxyl-xylose, 2,3,6-tricarboxyl-iduronic acid and 2,3,6-tricarboxyl-glucuronic acid, and showed greater anticoagulant activity than native ulavans.
