abstract The present invention describes the composition of a renewable asphaltene aggregation inhibitor with the potential to improve crude oil stability by preventing precipitation of asphaltenes. The formulation described aims to retard or prevent precipitation of asphaltenes in crude oils or vacuum residues during petroleum production and refining processes. The inhibiting active ingredient is a thermoplastic alkylphenolic condensation resin, which comes from a renewable source and has fifteen carbon atoms in the side chain. The resin is obtained by the reaction of condensation with cinnamaldehyde instead of formaldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst.
