titleOfInvention | production process of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (hmf) and its derivatives from the conversion of sugars using an ionic liquid insoluble in water |
abstract | production process of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (hmf) and its derivatives from the conversion of sugars using an ionic liquid insoluble in water. the present patent relates to the use of a water-insoluble ionic liquid, the chemical formula 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ch3 (c3h3n2) (ch2) 9ch3cf3so3 called c10mi.cf3so3, as a compound of the reaction medium where the reaction medium is developed sugar conversion reactions, reactions catalyzed by acidic compounds. it is formed from a cation, 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium (c10mi +) and an anion, trifluoromethanesulfonate (cf3so3-). the ionic liquid, in the presence of aqueous solutions, which solubilize the sugars and the hmf, forms a two-phase system. this, under agitation, becomes an emulsion and at the interfaces of the emulsion spheres, catalytic reactions occur that convert the sugars to hmf. at the end of the reaction, after stopping the stirring, the two phases are reformed, which allows for simple decantation to separate the hmf from the ionic liquid. the ionic liquid can thus be recycled and the hmf in aqueous solution and be directly subjected to subsequent reactions. the use of the ionic liquid c10mi.cf3so3 allows to develop a more economical and sustainable process for the production of hmf from biomass without needing the use of organic solvents to separate the hmf from the reaction medium. |
