titleOfInvention composites containing niobium oxohydroxide and polymer matrix, production processes and uses
abstract composites containing niobium oxohydroxide and polymer matrix, production processes and uses. the present invention describes photostabilising composites containing niobium oxohydroxide dispersed in a polymeric matrix. composites are prepared via thermo-mechanical processing. the invention also describes the use of niobium oxohydroxides as a stabilizing agent for polypropylene, polyurethane and polystyrene, preferably polypropylene (pp). niobium oxohydroxides act as a reinforcing filler and are effective in retarding the photodegradation of the polymer matrix. this effect is highly desirable for parts that during service are exposed to weathering. the degradation generated by ultraviolet radiation (uv) causes loss of properties, including mechanical properties, which compromise the performance of the parts.
