abstract Compact valve system for self-inflating tire. It is a tire having a tire cavity, wherein the tire has a bi-directional pump assembly that includes a pump passage that has an inlet end and an outlet end, and is operative to allow a portion of the pump pass near a tire footprint close and substantially open the pump pass. The tire includes a valve assembly having a valve housing, wherein a diaphragm is mounted on the valve housing that forms an inner chamber, and wherein the diaphragm is responsive to tire cavity pressure. The inner chamber has an inlet in fluid communication with the outside air, and an outlet in fluid communication with the inlet and outlet of the pump passage. The diaphragm is positioned over the outlet and operative to open and close the outlet. a resilient element propels the diaphragm into the open position.
