An antiseptic composition for the treatment of bovine mastitis is described, comprising the aqueous extract of Hedychium coronarium, popularly known as "lily-of-swamp", which has biological action against microorganisms found in the skin of teats of dairy cows, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, constituting an alternative to conventionally used chemicals, allowing the consumption of milk produced by animals without risks to human health.
