titleOfInvention Vividly-Oriented Contact Lenses
abstract ORIENTED CONTACT LENS WITH VIVIDLY COLORED SLATE. Contact lenses can be tinted or colored to provide a variety of effects on eye appearance. This can be done to correct a problem with the appearance of the eye or for cosmetic purposes. US Patent No. 4,652,099 proposes a contact lens with a white colored peripheral portion. However, simply coloring this portion of the lens white will typically not result in a natural looking or desirable looking eye lens. The lenses of the present invention solve this problem. The invention consists of a contact lens with a central portion and a peripheral portion disposed around the central portion. The peripheral portion has a bright color and a pattern with gradual transition to transparent towards the outer diameter of the lens. In another aspect of the invention, the peripheral portion provides a rotationally stabilized lens. The brightly colored peripheral portion may be opaque, semi-opaque, or translucent near the inner diameter of the peripheral portion, and may include the pattern of a corneoescleral limb or limbal ring, which may be colored. The brightly colored portion extends from the edge of the corneoescleral limb to the peripheral portion, creating the impression of a brighter or whiter sclera. The addition of the limbal ring provides additional contrast and aids in the overall effect of a brighter or whiter sclera. In another aspect of the invention, the peripheral portion of a contact lens is colored according to a geometric pattern. The lenses of the invention have a natural appearance.
