use of porphyrin-based photosensitizing compounds in photodynamic therapy. The present invention relates to the use of novel porphyrin-based photosensitizing compounds which associated with light-emitting sources are used in photodynamic therapy. The compounds are second generation, water-soluble, free-standing synthetic porphyrins that are photoactivated by light-emitting sources in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. These compounds can be used in photodynamic therapy for microbial inactivation, photodynamic treatment of tumoral lesions and dermatoses, and also for photodynamic diagnosis of tumoral lesions, which may or may not be associated with other conventional techniques. |
