titleOfInvention Compositions suitable for use as a pigment dispersant, pigment dispersion, coating composition and process for producing pigment dispersant
abstract "COMPOSITIONS SUITABLE FOR USE AS A PIGMENT DISPERSER, PIGMENT DISPOSAL, COATING COMPOSITION AND A PIGMENT DISPERSER PROCESS". Graft copolymer-based pigment polymer dispersant containing a new type of urea functional group as a pigment anchor group. Urea groups are attached to the graft copolymer by a convenient method involving the reaction of functional hydroxyl groups built into the graft copolymer with a diisocyanate that is capped at one end with primary or secondary ammonia or amine. The reaction is convenient and clean. Substantial cross-linking or gelling of the polymer can easily be avoided by careful selection of ingredients and appropriate processing conditions. These materials are effective in the dispersion and stabilization of a wide variety of pigments in solvent-based systems and are particularly useful in forming pigment dispersions that are used in a variety of automotive and truck solvent-based coating compositions where They provide improved pigment use efficiency, lower ink viscosity and reduced volatile organic solvent emission.
