titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of a hydrogel-forming polymer, hydrogel-forming polymer, uses thereof and an acrylic acid, and hygiene article with an absorption body
abstract "PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A HYDROGEL FORMING POLYMER, HYDROGEL FORMING POLYMER, USES OF THE SAME AND ACRYLIC ACID, AND HYGIENE ARTICLE WITH AN ABSORPTION BODY". The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a low odor, acrylic acid hydrogel-forming polymer comprising the following stages: a) preparation of a polymeric hydrogel by polymerization by addition of free radical to a monomer composition containing at least 50% by weight of acrylic acid in an aqueous polymerization medium and conversion of the hydrogel to a particulate hydrogel or hydrogel-forming powder; and, if required, (b) treating the particulate hydrogel or hydrogel forming powder with a cross-linking substance containing at least two functional groups which react with the carboxyl groups of the polymer; wherein the acrylic acid used in stage a) contains less than 400 ppm acetic and / or acrylic acid or propionic acid. The invention also relates to hydrogel forming polymers obtainable according to the process and its use.
