titleOfInvention Photochromic Article and Ophthalmic Photochromic Article
abstract "PHOTOGRAMIC ARTICLE AND Ophthalmic PHOTOCRATIC ARTICLE". The present invention relates to a plastic photochromic article, for example an ophthalmic photochromic article, such as a lens, wherein the article includes (1) a polymeric substrate, such as a thermoplastic or thermocured substrate, (2) a photochromic coating attached to at least one surface of the substrate, the photochromic coating containing a photochromic amount of at least one photochromic organic material, for example spiro oxazine, naphthopyran and / or fused, and (3) a cured acrylate film coherently attached to the photochromic coating, the acrylate-based film being (a) resistant to removal by inorganic caustic aqueous solutions, for example potassium hydroxide, (b) compatible with an abrasion-resistant organo silane-containing coating, and ( c) harder than said photochromic coating. It also describes the aforementioned photochromic article having an abrasion resistant coating attached to the radiation cured acrylate based film, for example an abrasion resistant coating comprising an organo silane; and a photochromic article having an anti-reflective coating attached to the abrasion resistant coating.
