abstract "METHODS FOR TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION AND OTHER CNS DISORDERS USING DISETITIAL AND DISEASES OF ENHANCED CITALOPRAM METABOLES". The present invention relates to novel objective compositions containing the (-) - desmethylcitalopram, the (+) - didesmethylcitalopram or the enanciomerically enriched (-) didesmethylcitalopram or mixtures thereof in optimal proportions. Contrary to the above teachings, the enanciomerically enriched citalopram metabolites described herein have potent serotonin reuptake inhibitory activity, with minimal inhibitory effects on the reuptake of other known monoamines, for example norepinephrine (NE) or dopamine (DA). The present invention further describes methods for treating disorders, dysfunctions and diseases for which inhibition of serotonin reuptake is therapeutically beneficial. In particular, the present invention describes a method for treating various forms of depression with the pharmaceutical compositions described herein.
