The present invention relates to anthraquinone dyes of the formula wherein R1 is hydrogen, R2 is hydrogen or -CO-C2 -C6 alkyl where the C2 -C2 moiety ~ 6 ~, alkyl may be substituted by carboxy or is where R ~ 6 ~ is hydrogen, C 1-1 -C 4 alkyl, hydroxyl, carboxyl or halogen, R 7 ~ is hydrogen, C 1-1 C ~ 4 ~ alkyl or halogen and R ~ 8 ~ is hydrogen or C ~ 2 ~ -C ~ 3 ~ alkyl or when R ~ 4 ~ is halogen, R ~ 8 ~ can be methyl or halogen, R ~ 3 ~ is hydrogen or halogen, R ~ 4 ~ is hydrogen or halogen and n is 0, 1 or 2, as long as R ~ 3 ~, R ~ 4 ~, R ~ 6 ~, R ~ 7 ~ and R ~ 8 ~ are not all hydrogen of once and at the same time processes for their preparation and use for dyeing or printing hydrophobic fiber materials or for the preparation of colored plastics or polymeric colored particles.
