Method of making silicone copolymers, apparatus for their continuous manufacture, silicone copolymer and polyurethane foam |
abstract |
"METHOD OF MAKING SILICON COPOLYLLERS, APPLIANCE FOR THE CONTINUOUS MANUFACTURE OF THE SAME, SILICON COPOLYMER AND POLYURETHANE FOAM". A continuous process for making silicone copolymer using at least one static mix shutter-flow reactor, and optionally two static mix shutter-flow reactors in series or in parallel. Silicone copolymers produced in accordance with the present invention are substantially free of unreacted hydrogen siloxane starting material and may be used without further purification. The static mix shutter-flow reactor contains static mixing elements capable of creating swirls and vortices of sufficient intensity that a biphasic liquid mixture, such as a siloxane hydrogen fluid and an olefin polyether reagent, is sheared from the droplets of each material so that one phase disperses within another phase to provide intimate contact between the two phases to allow the reaction to proceed. |
