"ACCIDENT AND DISPERSANT AGENTS FOR LUBRICANT AND FUEL OILS". The present invention relates to hydrocarbyl substituted carboxylic compositions and derivatives thereof useful as additives for lubricating and fuel oil compositions. Carboxylic compositions are derived from (A) an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon, said hydrocarbon having at least one allyl hydrogen atom, and (B) a complex <244>, unsaturated compound prepared by reacting (1) an active compound of methylene of the formula and (2) a carbonyl compound of the formula wherein R 4a 4 is hydrogen or hydrocarbyl and R 4b 4 is a member of the group consisting of H, hydrocarbyl and A where each R 'is independently R or OR and each R is independently H or a hydrocarbyl group; acetals, ketals, hemiacetals, hemicetals of the carbonyl compound (2). Carboxylic derivative compositions are obtained by reacting the carboxylic compositions with a reagent selected from the group consisting of (a) amines identified by the presence in their structure of at least one HN <condensible> group, (b) alcohols, (c) reactive metals or reactive metal compounds , and (d) a combination of two or more from (a) to (c), the components of (d) being reacted with the carboxylic composition simultaneously or sequentially, in any order. |
