"DRUG FOR TOPICAL APPLICATION, USE OF A HALOGENATE XANTHENE, PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR TOPICAL ADMINISTRATION, AND, TREATMENT METHOD". New and topically applicable photodynamic drugs and certain medical uses of such photodynamic drugs for treating human or animal tissue are described, in which a primary active component of such drugs is halogenated xanthene. Halogenated xanthenes are a family of potent photosensitizers that become photoactivated after lighting the treatment site with visible light wavelengths. In preferred embodiments, such drugs are used to treat a variety of conditions that affect the skin and related organs; the mouth and digestive tract and related organs; urinary and reproductive tracts and related organs; the respiratory tract and related organs; various other internal or external tissue surfaces, such as tissue surfaces exposed during surgery; and for treating a variety of conditions related to microbial or parasitic infection. In another preferred embodiment, such drugs are produced in various formulations that include liquid, semi-solid or aerosol delivery vehicles. |
