abstract "FLUOROGENIC COMPOUND, ENZYME-SENSITIVE COMPOSITE STRUCTURE, FLUOROGENIC MACROMOLECULAR CONJUGATE, METHODS OF DETERMINING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A STERILIZATION PROCEDURE, DETECTING AN EYE-HOLY TOMORROW MOLECULE. New coumarin-based fluorogenic compounds useful in the assay for biological activity are disclosed. Specifically, these fluorogenic compounds exhibit fluorescence at particular wavelengths when cleaved by the target enzymes. Preferred compounds include sugar derivatives and peptides from umbeliferone derivatives that carry a five-membered heterocyclic ring in position 3. These compounds can be used to quickly detect food pathogens and to determine the effectiveness of sterilization. The compounds can also be used in a form attached to a polymeric support or to a biomolecule or macromolecule.
