titleOfInvention | TOBACCO PROCESSING METHOD FOR REDUCING THE CONTENT OF NITROSAMINS AND PRODUCTS OBTAINED THAT METHOD |
abstract | The method is used in the tobacco industry. The products obtained thereon are used for the production of cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, scouring, for tobacco gums or candies. The method involves subjecting at least a portion of the tobacco plant to microwave irradiation or radiation at a higher frequency at a suitable time during drying while it is capable of reducing the content of tobacco-specific nitrosamines including N'-nitrosonoricotin, 4 - (N-nitrosomethylamino) -1- (3-pyridyl) -1-butanone, N'-nitrosoanatabine and N'-nitrosoanabine other carcinogens, or inhibiting or preventing their formation. The resulting products have a lower or insignificant content of these substances compared to products dried by traditional methods. Tobacco leaf irradiation is carried out after initiation of the yellowing or before the accumulation of substantial quantities of tobacco-specific nitrosamines for a time sufficient to effectively dry them without burning. As alternative sources of radiation, infrared radiation, ultraviolet radiation, soft X-rays or lasers, electron beam and gamma radiation can be used. |
