The invention relates to novel S-nitrosothiol derivatives of penicillamine or glutathione of the formula wherein A and B denote phenyl groups or together form the residue -CH 2 -Q -CH 2 - constituting a six-membered ring in which Q represents an oxygen, sulfur or group atom N-R3 in which R3 represents hydrogen or an C1-C4 alkyl group; R1 denotes an acyl residue, which may be an aliphatic acyl group C1-C5 or a glutamic acid residue linked through its amino acid carboxyl; R2 represents a hydroxy group or glycine residue linked by a peptide bond; provided that if R1 is an aliphatic acyl residue, R2 is a hydroxyl group, and if R1 is a glutamic acid residue, R2 is a glycine residue. The new compounds have vasodilating activity and inhibit plaque aggregation, making them useful for the treatment of disorders of the circulatory system, especially at the cardiovascular level. |
