| abstract |
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polymeric prepregs (prepregs). The fibers are coated with a powder containing at least one polymer and, optionally, an agent initiating the polymerization reaction. To the resulting composition is added a solvent which can dissolve the polymer but does not initiate polymerization thereof. Subsequently, the solvent is evaporated. It is also possible that the polymer is first dissolved in a solvent. The fibers are then contacted with the resulting solution and the solvent is evaporated, and preferably their surface is treated in advance to facilitate adhesion of the polymer. The thus treated fibers are coated with a powder polymer. The invention also relates to a novel material, to a method for preparing a fiber reinforced composite based on a polymer impregnated fibrous product, to new composites and to their application. |
