titleOfInvention | ANDROSTANE STEROIDS AS A NEUROCHEMICAL INITIATOR OF CHANGES IN THE HYPOTHALAMIC FUNCTION OF HUMAN AND RELATED PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS |
abstract | The method involves nasal administration of human semiochemical compounds, for example androstan steroids, or a pharmaceutical composition containing them. The compositions provide for the attachment of the semiochemical binder to a specific neuroepithelial receptor. Preferably, the steroid or steroids are administered (m) in the form of a pharmaceutical composition containing one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. Other embodiments of the invention include pharmaceutical compositions comprising steroids of the formula wherein p1 is selected from the group consisting of oxo, - () hydroxy, - () acetoxy, () propionoxy, () methoxy, () low molecular acyloxy, () low molecular weight alkyloxy and () benzyloxy; p2 is from the group consisting of methyl, hydroxymethyl, acyloxymethyl, alkoxymethyl, low molecular weight alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, acyloxyalkyl and alkoxyalkyl, p3 is absent or is selected from the group consisting of methyl, hydroxymethylxyalkyloxymethylxyalkylmethylxyalkylxymethyl alkoxyalkyl; p4 is selected from the group of hydrogen, oxo, halo, hydroxy, alkoxy and acyloxy, p5 represents one or two substituents including one or two hydrogen atoms, methyl methylene or one or two halogen atoms and p6 is hydrogen or halo; and a, c, c, d, e, f, n are opposite locations for optional double bonds. |
